Watch me work it: CHANEL MADEMOISELLE PRIVÉ COLLECTION

When I am scrolling through my Designer Magazines for the month, I often come across the products marked “Price on request”. It always crossed my mind that why exactly are these products’ prices not revealed.

Aww struck me when I saw the Chanel watches collection. The Mademoiselle Prive collection by Chanel is giving fashion another Iconic turn. I would call it a true work of art. Chanel has dived into watch making and come out with a result so astonishing and breath taking which even Mademoiselle would not have envisaged.

I understood after watching the craftsmanship take form into something so beautiful and grandiose why should it be tagged as “price on request”.

The artistic expression of Chanel is truly satisfied in the Mademoiselle Prive collection. A watch never gets a runway but for a watch so iconic there should be a runway of its own.

The themes on which these watch models are made are close to Chanel’s heart. The inspiration was the very modern Apartment of Gabriele Chanel.

Watchmakers are often taken to be the artisans of craft, what this collection says about the watchmakers is something totally different. Watchmakers are magicians, as we see that the Diamonds, the gold threads, the hand crafted dials are beautiful as it is but how they combine and form something so serine and beautiful is only a work of magic (pun intended).

So to speak, no doubt this impression is reinforced by the presence of precious gemstones but also by the artisan skill required to create the exquisite objects.

Chanel worked with the Maison Lesage, a French couture embroiderer, to create the dials for the Mademoiselle Privé Camélia, a delicate timepiece with a fabric dial embroidered with diamonds and pearls.

Here translucent Grand Feu enamel covers an 18k white gold dial engraved with the lion is the representation of the constellation Leo. Why only the constellation Leo and not anything else?  Leo was the star sign of Gabrielle Chanel.

The Mademoiselle Privé Decor watches refer to different themes present in Chanel’s life. The whole collection has a simplicity which Coco Chanel lived by and which is living in Chanel even today.

Having said that, I rest my case for the Mademoiselle Prive watch at one last view from the collection.
